What Are My Options For Pillow Finishing?

Generally speaking, pillows fall into one of two categories: Knife Edge or Boxed. From there, they sky is the limit - here a few fan favorites:

  • Knife Edge

A Knife Edge pillow is a traditional pillow finish that comes to a single edge. The pillow's edge can be self-welted, contrast welted, corded, trimmed, fringed, etc. This style of pillow can be inset, ruffled, etc.

  • Boxed Pillow

A Boxed Pillow differs from a Knife Edge pillow primarily in the number of edges and the presence of a gusset. Boxed pillows can be embellished many ways, however, they are not great candidates for ruffles, trims, fringe, etc.

  • Round Pillow

Rounds Pillows generally start with a a round canvas, although, this doesn't always have to be the case. Square and rectangular inserts can be centered in Round Pillows. Round Pillows should always be boxed with a gusset.

  • Hanging Pillow

Much like a hanging sign or ornament, the Hanging Pillow is designed to hang off of a loop or ribbon. Knife Edge style tends to work best.

Estimated Lead Times

Pillows with limited embellishments can move quite quickly through the finishing queue since they are machine-sewn. You can expect a pillow to take roughly 4 months on average.
